The short version: Snug Transcribe does not collect your data, because it cannot. Recording and transcription happen entirely on your device. Your audio and your transcripts never leave it.

What we collect

Nothing. Snug Transcribe has no accounts, no cloud storage, no analytics, and no advertising. Your recordings, transcripts, titles, and settings exist only on your device, in the app's private storage. We cannot see them, and neither can anyone else through us.

There is one exception, and it does not come from the app. If Snug Transcribe crashes, your app store may send its own crash report — a technical description of what broke — to the developer console, where we can read it. It contains no audio, no transcript, and nothing personal. Your device settings control whether it is sent at all.

When the app uses the network

Two things, and nothing else. The app downloads speech-recognition models from models.snugtranscribe.com, and only when you ask it to. And it speaks to the app store on your device about the Pro upgrade — to show the price, to handle a purchase, and to restore one you already own.

Like any download, fetching a model shows your IP address to our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which processes it on our behalf for the length of the transfer so the file can reach you. That is simply how a download works. We have never switched on request logging, so no record of your download is kept by us at all — and there would be nothing to connect one to in any case, because you have no account with us.

This page itself is served without trackers, analytics, cookies, or embedded fonts, so reading our privacy policy does not hand your details to anyone either.

If you have not bought Pro, the app asks the store on startup whether you already own it. That is what lets a reinstall restore your purchase without an account.

What happens after that depends on which Pro you bought, and we would rather be exact than flattering:

• The one-time purchase is never re-checked. Once it is unlocked the app stops asking the store entirely and makes no network requests at all. Your unlock lives on the device and cannot be taken away by a server you cannot reach. Downloaded and unlocked, Snug Transcribe is designed to be opened in airplane mode and behave exactly as it always does.
• The monthly subscription is re-checked. It has to be — a subscription can be cancelled or lapse, and the only thing that knows is the store. So while you are subscribed the app asks your app store, when it starts, whether the subscription is still running. It sends nothing about you and receives only yes or no.

Being unable to ask is not the same as being told no. If the store cannot be reached — you are offline, abroad, on a plane — your subscription keeps working for 30 days from the last successful check, because an app sold on working offline should not stop working when you are. Only the store actually answering that the subscription has ended will end it.

Purchases

Pro can be bought two ways — once and for good, or as a monthly subscription. Both unlock exactly the same thing, and both are handled entirely by the app store you installed from (Google Play, Microsoft Store, or Apple's App Store), using that store's own purchasing system. We never see or handle your card, your billing address, or your name — the store processes all of it under its own privacy policy, and passes us nothing about you. What the app receives back is a yes or no about whether this device owns Pro.

Cancelling a subscription is done in your app store, not here; the app links you straight to that screen. We could not cancel it for you even if you asked, because we do not know who you are.

That answer is saved on your device and nowhere else. We keep no customer list, no purchase records, and no way to connect a purchase to a person.

Permissions the app asks for

• Microphone — to record audio. Recordings stay on your device.
• Notifications — to show recording and transcription progress while the app is in the background.
• Internet and network status — to download a speech model, to check whether you are on Wi-Fi before starting one, and for store purchases. Nothing you record is ever sent anywhere.
• Running in the background — so a recording or a transcription keeps going when you switch apps or lock your phone.
• Keeping the device awake — so a long transcription is not halted by the screen turning off.

An app that works offline still has to ask for internet permission, because downloading the speech model is the one thing it genuinely needs a connection for. It is the only thing that connection is used for.

Files you import

When you import an audio file, the app copies it into its own private storage so it can work on it reliably. That copy stays on your device alongside everything else, and deleting the recording deletes it. It is never uploaded, and we never see it.

Your data, your device

Deleting a recording in the app deletes it from your device. Uninstalling the app removes everything. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing for us to delete, export, or hand over — and nothing to breach. For the same reason, back up transcripts you care about yourself (the app can export any transcript as a text file).

Children

Snug Transcribe is not directed at children under 13 and, collecting nothing, processes no children's data.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Since the app's design makes data collection impossible, meaningful changes would require a redesign we do not intend.
